Qurbani FAQs

What is Qurbani?

Qurbani is the ritual in which Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was willing to sacrifice his son after Allah commanded him to. Before carrying out the slaughter, his son was replaced by an animal.

Every year, Muslims commemorate this by sacrificing livestock (sheep, cows, goats or camels) during Eid-al-Adha. Qurbani also aligns with Hajj, the pilgrimage to Makkah, as pilgrims must complete Qurbani after Hajj.

Do I need to give Qurbani every year?

Yes, Qurbani is an annual obligation that adults must give before Eid-ul-Adha in the month of Dhul-Hijjah.

Are children obligated to donate?

No, children do not have to donate Qurbani charity.

How much does Qurbani in Gaza cost?

Do husband and wife both have to give Qurbani?

Yes, every person must give a minimum of one Qurbani each.

Can we give money to the poor instead of Qurbani?

No, you cannot give money to the poor instead of Qurbani. Islam always recommends helping the poor, so you can give money as well as Qurbani. But it cannot be used to replace your Qurbani.

Can you give Qurbani on behalf of a dead person?

Yes, you can give Qurbani on behalf of the deceased in Islam.
