Give Sadaqah

Give Sadaqah, help people in need and receive great rewards.

Sadaqah, a voluntary form of charity in Islam, can be given in many different ways. It can take the form of a monetary donation, a kind word, all the way to acts of continuous charity, also known as Sadaqah Jariyah. Not to be mistaken with Zakat, which is obligatory charity, Sadaqah, or Sadqa, refers specifically to voluntary acts of charity.

What is Sadaqah?

Sadaqah is the term used to describe a voluntary act of charity in Islam. It is one of the most common types of charity Muslims give. Sadqa encompasses anything from an act of kindness to a monetary charity donation and Sadaqah Jariyah refers to ongoing charity that is beneficial. Sadaqah Jaariyah can be given at any time of year, in any amount.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasised the benefits of giving Sadaqah in a number of sayings: "Sadaqah extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire." (Tirmidhi)

Therefore, any act of kindness or support extended to other beings (including animals) for the sake of Allah (SWT), can be considered an act of Sadqa or charity.

Examples of Sadaqah

Sadaqah can include both everyday actions and long-term humanitarian support. Examples of Sadaqah include donating clean water to vulnerable people in need, extending a smile or even removing a harmful object from the path. Aqiqah is also an example.

Some further examples of Sadaqah include:

  • 1. Making food for others
  • 2. Teaching Quran
  • 3. Watering a plant
  • 4. Taking care of an animal
  • 5. Raising a righteous child
  • 6. Sharing beneficial knowledge
  • 7. Any other form of voluntary donation

What is the difference between Sadaqah and Sadaqah Jariyah?

Sadaqah is an act of charity in the short-term, while Sadaqah Jariyah is for the long-term. For instance, cooking dinner for someone will allow them to eat for one day, however, building a water well will allow communities to drink water for years to come, providing ongoing reward.

Donate Your Sadaqah Today & Earn Rewards

It couldn't be easier to donate sadaqah and earn rewards. You can choose from several options, including providing water aid to a family in need, food packs, medical aid or giving children school learning kits. Donating Sadaqah Jariyah is your chance to earn ongoing reward; for as long as your donation is of benefit to people, you will continue to be rewarded In Shaa Allah (God willing).

With millions of people undergoing hardships around the world, in areas such as Gaza, Sudan and many more, your Sadqah can provide life-saving aid.

Sadaqah FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about Sadaqah & Sadaqah Jariyah.

Is giving Sadaqah considered an act of worship in Islam?

Yes, it is considered a rewarding act of worship, when done sincerely and with correct intentions. It is encouraged in both the Quran and Hadith. When a Muslim gives from their wealth for the sake of Allah SWT, not only are they helping people in need, but can also strengthen their faith and gain spiritual reward. Even small acts of charity count and should not be dismissed.

Who can you give Sadqa to?

Sadqah can be given to anyone. Unlike Zakat, there are no requirements for someone to be able to receive the voluntary charity. This means you can give to a family member, friend, Rohingya or Palestine refugees who have been displaced, a person living through poverty, affected by natural disasters or anyone else.

How much money to give in Sadaqah?

You can give any amount. Unlike Zakat, which is 2.5% of your money, Sadaqah can be any amount. For instance, you can donate £1 to a cause or £1,000 or more. There is no limit.

Who does GRF distribute Sadaqah to?

We give your voluntary donations to people in need across the globe. We primarily work across Africa, the Middle East and Asia, supporting vulnerable communities through the food crisis, education support, orphan sponsorship, livelihoods programmes, building homes and water projects. This means your donations can give hot meals for Palestinian families in the Gaza crisis, a water well for vulnerable families in Sudan, a water hand pump in Pakistan or medical care for displaced people, as examples. We also carry out projects right here in the UK, including Eid gift distribution for children in hospitals and feeding the homeless.

Does Sadqa have to be money?

No. Any acts of kindness and compassion are also seen as Sadqa. This varies from teaching someone a skill to planting an olive tree to building long-term water solutions to helping a Muslim child join a Hifz programme and become a Hafiz.

Can Sadaqah help people become financially independent?

Yes, Sadaqah can be used to support livelihood programmes by providing tools like sewing machines or rickshaws. Through these initiatives, individuals can earn a living for their families and grow wealth sustainably. In turn, this can help them become self-sufficient and financially independent, breaking the poverty cycle.

Is Sadaqah only for short-term help or can it support long-term impact?

Sadqah can support both immediate relief and long-term change. Family food packs and hot meals provide immediate, short-term relief, while water supply projects like water wells and other sustainable development programmes like mental health initiatives create long-term impact.

When can I donate?

You can give Sadka at any time. Many believers give more during Ramadan, as there is an opportunity to earn more rewards during the blessed month, especially if given on Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Power).

How can I donate Sadaqah with GRF?

You can pay Sadaqah online on our website, over the phone or via direct bank transfer. Your donation can provide emergency conflict response in countries like Palestine, Yemen, Pakistan and more.
