Sudan was already experiencing a dire humanitarian crisis when, on Sunday 31 August, a catastrophic landslide wiped out the village of Tarasin in the mountains of Darfur. An estimated 1,000 people have been killed and the people of Sudan need us even more than before. Prior to this, armed conflict had left 24.6 million people needing humanitarian assistance. 8.6 million have been internally displaced and forced to leave their homes. Millions lack access to food, health services and sanitation facilities - the basics everyone needs to get by. We're working to change that. GRF is supporting families in Kassala State, East Sudan, where 190,000 displaced people now seek refuge. We're providing food parcels, emergency shelter equipment, medical supplies and more. What's happening in Sudan?

In April 2023, war broke out in Sudan, triggering one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. The conflict caused mass displacement, and millions had to flee, seeking refuge in neighbouring countries like Chad. Millions more were internally displaced within the country. Now, Sudan's infrastructure has collapsed, especially in Khartoum, Darfur and other key areas. The influx of internally displaced people has overwhelmed host communities and aid capacities, making it hard to help everyone.

What's more, the existing economic crisis has worsened, and food insecurity has become widespread, while healthcare and sanitation facilities are on the brink of collapse. Starvation is rising, and the population continues to rely on limited emergency aid. By donating to Sudan, you are providing hope to displaced families during their time of need. With the war in Sudan named ‘the Forgotten War’, don’t let the people suffering be forgotten.

637,000: Highest anywhere in the world

637,000 people face catastrophic levels of hunger. This is the highest amount anywhere in the world (World Food Programme). Several areas in Sudan face famine. In 2025, 770,000 children are expected to suffer from severe acute malnutrition (UNICEF). The situation is extremely dire, yet Sudan remains forgotten.

Give water, preserve health

A staggering 17 million people lack access to safe drinking water, with 32,000+ suspected cholera cases and 744 associated deaths as of July 2025. To meet basic humanitarian needs, there is a daily requirement for 288,710 litres of water.

Unsanitary conditions can spread diseases, worsening the conditions of those already suffering. Just £20 can provide vital sanitary items for women - items that are not easily accessible. Furthermore, many only have the same clothes they wore when displaced and require clean clothes. From just £20, you can provide clean clothing during the displacement emergency, preserving health and dignity.
