55 million people in East Africa are severely food insecure.

Millions in East Africa are facing immense challenges. Starvation, caused by the climate crisis, ongoing conflict and lack of sustainable livelihoods, threatens millions of people every single day. Rising food prices make it increasingly difficult for people to feed their families, while some of the worst droughts have disrupted agricultural productivity, which makes up the majority of livelihoods in East Africa. As a result, 55.3 million people across the region are severely food insecure. GRF is providing aid to people in Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya during this food crisis. Donate now and help vulnerable people in need.

Donate to Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya

Somalia's food crisis leaves almost half of the community in search of food aid, with 40% of children under 5 likely to experience acute malnutrition. In Kenya, rising food prices continue to make access to food even harder. Your donations can contribute toward food security, helping people in vulnerable communities to survive.

Fill Their Stomachs Today

For just £50, you can provide food packs to feed a family of 6 for 3 weeks. Food packs contain nutritious foods for families facing extreme hunger, many at risk of acute malnutrition. With 50 million people in the region being pushed toward starvation, your donations can feed malnourished children and provide essential nutrients they need.

Donate now and provide emergency food to communities experiencing a hunger crisis.

Provide Clean Water & Receive Ongoing Reward

Around half of Somalia's population is unable to access safe drinking water. Dirty water can transmit waterborne diseases including diarrhoea, cholera, polio and typhoid. With your help, GRF is providing water wells to Somalian and Tanzanian communities.

These wells serve hope for vulnerable communities, providing safe water for thousands of people. £850 builds a water well in Tanzania, and £3,000 builds a water well in Somalia. These wells act as Sadaqah Jariyah and allow you to earn continuous reward for as long as people benefit from them.

Help Them Earn

Severe drought has threatened livelihoods, leading many to experience extreme poverty. Many people were reliant on agriculture to earn for their families, but the current conditions make this harder, day by day. This leaves families unable to afford essential items.

GRF is delivering sewing machines and rickshaws, allowing those in need to earn a livelihood. For £2,500, you can provide a rickshaw and for £170, you can provide a sewing machine, allowing an individual to earn a stable income for their family.

East Africa Appeal FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about our East Africa appeal.

Why is there a humanitarian crisis in Somalia and East Africa?

East Africa is facing a severe humanitarian emergency due to climate change, prolonged drought, flooding, rising food prices, and internal conflict. In Somalia, decades of civil war, displacement, and weak infrastructure have left communities extremely vulnerable. Furthermore, millions across the Horn of Africa are experiencing chronic hunger, malnutrition, and lack of access to basic services, creating famine-like conditions that leave families requiring urgent help.

How does my donation help people in Somalia?

When you donate to Somalia, your contribution supports life-saving projects: family food parcels, hot meals, deep water wells and livelihood support such as rickshaws and sewing machines. These projects help address malnutrition, improve health and restore dignity for families affected by hunger & displacement. Your support also allows us to distribute essential aid during Ramadan and Qurbani, allowing families to make the most of these blessed months.

What is causing water shortages in Somalia?

Severe water shortages are driven by erratic rainfall, prolonged drought, and the impact of climate change in the Horn of Africa. Many communities lack access to safe water and sanitation, increasing the spread of disease. Our WASH services focus on providing clean water through deep water wells, improving hygiene, and protecting vulnerable families from waterborne illnesses.

How do water wells support long-term recovery?

Deep water wells provide sustainable access to clean water, improving health, child education and overall well-being. These wells reduce the burden on women and children, protect livestock, and help communities recover from famine and drought. Water wells also qualify as Sadaqah Jariyah , providing continuous reward.

How are children affected by the crisis?

Millions of children are malnourished and at risk of acute malnutrition, especially in Somalia. Hunger impacts children's education, physical development and access to healthcare. At GRF, our food and water projects help protect children’s health while reducing the long-term effects of hunger and poverty. Additionally, through our Back to School campaign, we distribute uniforms and school kits, giving children the tools they need to show up prepared and ready to learn.

How do livelihood projects help break the cycle of poverty?

By providing rickshaws and sewing machines, families can earn a stable income, rebuild dignity and reduce dependency on aid. By supporting our livelihood projects, you are helping to strengthen economic resilience and improve access to food, education & healthcare. Beneficiaries can then become the givers, In Shaa Allah, using their skills to support their community.
