Ayesha R
Background
Ayesha R is a 35 year old widow living in Cox’s Bazar with her 5 children, aged between 3 to 13. She has been a refugee in Bangladesh since the crisis forced her family to flee their homeland in 2017. Ayesha is determined to protect and nourish her children despite the many hardships.
The challenge
After losing her husband during the displacement, Ayesha became the sole caregiver for her children. With no stable income, she has been relying on humanitarian assistance for food, shelter, and survival. Without an income source, affording nutritious meals - especially meat - has been extremely difficult. Special occasions like Eid were emotionally painful as the family couldn’t observe traditional meals.
How did we support?
We provided 2kg of Qurbani meat through the Bangladesh Qurbani 2025 project. For Ayesha, it was a rare moment of joy, dignity, and connection to religious celebration. The meat provided vital nutrition to her family and allowed them to celebrate Eid with dignity. Her children were excited to have meat on their plates, a moment of happiness amidst hardship.
What Ayesha said
"It felt like a miracle for my children. We hadn’t eaten meat in months. Thank you to the people who remembered us on Eid."
GRF’s Qurbani project allowed Ayesha and her children to observe Eid with dignity and joy, reinforcing hope and community solidarity in a challenging environment.
Ayesha S
Background
Ayesha S is a 52 year old mother of seven and has faced tremendous struggle since arriving at the camp. As the head of her household, Ayesha has been caring for her children and a disabled grandson, relying solely on limited relief support for survival. Ayesha is a resilient woman, committed to her family despite advanced age and limited mobility.
The challenge
Ayesha’s household often eats one meal a day due to food insecurity. Due to poverty and limited food options, her family rarely consumes protein-rich food. Meat is a luxury they can’t afford. Eid often passed with lentils and rice alone.
How did we support?
We provided Qurbani meat to Ayesha and her family. Receiving Qurbani meat brought immense happiness to her family. It was the only time in the year they had meat - a rare treat. The meat brought nutrition and emotional relief. Her children smiled for the first time in days. It strengthened their faith and made them feel seen and valued.
What Ayesha said
"We are forgotten people. But this meat made us feel like we are part of Eid again. May Allah bless those who helped us."
The Qurbani meat provided by GRF was not just food - it was a gesture of compassion, reviving faith and joy in Ayesha’s struggling family.
Halima S
Background
Halima is a mother of four, living in a single room shelter in a congested camp. Her husband went missing during their escape from violence. She has since been raising her children alone, depending on small aid distributions. Halima is caring, gentle, and tries to maintain a normal environment for her children, even with extremely limited means.
Current situation
Most days, Halima struggles to prepare enough food. Meat is completely absent from their meals. Her children suffer from malnutrition, and she worries constantly about their health.
The challenge
Without an income source, affording nutritious meals - especially meat - has been extremely difficult. Special occasions like Eid were emotionally painful as the family couldn’t observe traditional meals.
How did we support?
For Eid 2025, Halima’s family received 2kg of fresh Qurbani meat. It allowed her to prepare a special dish and fulfil the Sunnah of Eid - something she thought was impossible. The meal restored a sense of normalcy, celebration, and nutrition. Her children were thrilled, and Halima expressed deep gratitude for being remembered.
What Halima said
"For one day, my children ate like other children. This act of kindness has lifted our hearts."
GRF’s support allowed Halima to offer her children both nourishment and spiritual fulfilment. It transformed a day of emptiness into one of festivity and prayer.
