Here’s how it went.
Earlier this month, our team headed to Jordan with Canadian Youtubers Habibi Squad. During their time in Jordan, they hand-delivered aid, held a fun day for orphans and sat with beneficiaries to truly understand why they need our help.
Jordan is home to over 1 million Syrian & Palestinian refugees. Most refugees live in densely packed homes and it’s hard for families to get by. Opportunities remain limited, with salaries low. For those from disadvantaged backgrounds, the situation is even worse. We work with Syrian & Palestinian refugees in Jordan to provide food aid, livelihood support and financial aid.
The trip began in Amman, Jordan’s capital city. The team handed out food parcels to Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Jordan, many whom are reliant on humanitarian aid. Food parcels contain long-lasting staple items and can feed a family of 6 for up to 3 weeks.
Next, they visited people living in refugee camps, assessing the current situation on the ground. Many family homes remain in difficult conditions, and families need money to improve these conditions. The team spoke to families, identifying their individual needs.
On day 2, they travelled Southwest of Amman to Madaba for another busy day. They started by visiting a building being prepared for people with disabilities. This centre will feature dedicated areas, each specialised to fit people with certain disabilities. Many disability centres in Jordan remain unspecialised, but this one will feature specific sections for optimal care.
Next, they distributed more food parcels to families, ensuring they had food to sustain them for the coming weeks. As a humanitarian aid charity, food parcels are one of the most common forms of relief we provide. Each parcel was well-packed to provide maximum nutrition.
After the distribution, the team visited more people’s homes to learn about home restoration projects we had completed in the past. We had previously renovated 3 homes; improving kitchens, bathrooms, fixing ceilings that may have had leaks and painting homes. We further checked all electrical wiring to ensure safety.
One of the best memories for our team was the children’s fun day. Playing with children, making them laugh and eating with them held a special place in our team’s hearts. Refugee children don’t get to experience the same joys as other children across the globe, and our fun days give them a chance to play, make memories and be children for a little while.
On day 3, the team was back in Amman. They started the day by handing out school bags and stationery to students. Many children don’t get to go to school as they don’t have essential supplies like school bags or notebooks, which is why we provide them. The team distributed school kits to two lots of children, each in different areas.
Next, they visited our sewing machine centre that we had previously set up. This centre provides sewing machine training for women so they can earn a living. We regularly visit this centre, with the last visit towards the end of last year.
The third day marked more food parcel distributions for Syrian and Palestinian refugees. This was a reminder for our team; we are able to eat freely, whenever we please, but many refugees rely on humanitarian aid.
We regularly hold deployments to visit beneficiaries and see your donations in action – and you can join us! We’re always looking for people to join our LINK deployments, building the link between us and the beneficiaries we serve. Be the LINK and join our next deployment. We can’t wait to meet you soon In Shaa Allah.
